I was inspired to base my fashion film on kid napping and the effect it has on the people being kid napped after I found a new paper article about three girls, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight, who had been kidnapped for 10 years in a man’s house in Cleveland. The horrific story came out in May 2013 after Amanda had managed to escape the house and rang 911.
All three girls were kid napped on the same street and taken to a house only 3 miles away, where they were trapped for 10 years. The girl were badly malnourished, beaten and raped, causing at least five babies being born and one woman having around three miscarriages. Cleveland police believe that the three girls were tied up and local reports claim there were chains hanging from the ceiling.
The three women and a child managed to finally escape after neighbour, Charles Ramsey heard screaming from the house as he was eating dinner. He rushed out to see a hand reaching out of the door and a woman that he did not recognise, Amanda Berry, 26, screaming for help. He managed to kick the door down to allow her to escape and she ran, with her six year old daughter, to his house to call the police. The police arrived minutes later to release the other two woman, Gina DeJesus, 23 and Michele Knight, 32. The capturer was later found to be Ariel Castro, 52 and he lived in the house with his two brothers Pedro, 54 and Onil, 50.
This horrific true story inspired me to make my fashion film about three young girls being kid napped and how they all react differently to the position they’re in, just like these three girls did. The story shocked so many and has stuck in people’s mind and that is the effect I want my fashion film to give its viewers. I will use the idea of the girls being trapped against their will, but I will use a different location. I will also only use one man as the kidnapper.
